Dr. Anthony Fauci and David M. Rubenstein to be Honored at New-York
Historical Society’s Annual History Makers Gala

Yashiris Moreta, Vice President for Operations at New-York Historical,
to Receive Special Recognition

New York, NY—July 22, 2021—The New-York Historical Society will present the 2021 History Makers Award to Dr. Anthony Fauci for his contributions to public health and the American people. The gala will take place on October 19, 2021, at New-York Historical’s Central Park West home. David Rubenstein will receive New-York Historical’s 1804 Founders Medal for Distinguished Service to the Field of History. Special recognition will also be paid to New-York Historical’s Vice President for Operations Yashiris Moreta for extraordinary service.

“It’s no exaggeration to say that we’ve experienced unprecedented times during the past year and a half,” said Pam Schafler, chair of New-York Historical’s Board of Trustees. “It is our great privilege to honor Dr. Fauci for his decades of service and to express our gratitude to a man who gave our nation hope during some of its darkest hours. We are also thrilled to award David Rubenstein with the 1804 Founders Medal for his unwavering dedication to preserving history and sharing it with the public at large. We are equally pleased to recognize Yashiris Moreta for her exceptional commitment to maintaining the wellbeing of New-York Historical under the most difficult of circumstances.”

The funds raised at the History Makers Gala benefit education programs at New-York Historical that annually serve more than 200,000 New York City public school students. Past recipients of the History Makers Award include Andrew Roberts (2019), Jim Dale (2018), William J. Bratton and Rikki Klieman (2017), Ken Burns and Ric Burns (2016), Ron Chernow and Lin-Manuel Miranda (2015), Hillary Clinton (2014), David Petraeus (2013), Wynton Marsalis and Walter Isaacson (2012), and Henry Kissinger (2011), among others.

2021 Honorees

Dr. Anthony Fauci was appointed Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases in 1984. He oversees an extensive research portfolio of basic and applied research to prevent, diagnose, and treat established infectious diseases such as HIV/AIDS, respiratory infections, diarrheal diseases, tuberculosis, and malaria as well as emerging diseases such as Ebola and Zika. NIAID also supports research on transplantation and immune-related illnesses, including autoimmune disorders, asthma, and allergies. Dr. Fauci has advised seven Presidents on HIV/AIDS and many other domestic and global health issues. He was one of the principal architects of the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), a program that has saved millions of lives throughout the developing world.

David M. Rubenstein, an American financier and philanthropist, is co-founder and co-chairman of The Carlyle Group, a global investment firm. He is chairman of the Board of Trustees of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and the Council on Foreign Relations, a fellow of the Harvard Corporation, and a trustee of the National Gallery of Art.

Yashiris Moreta, New-York Historical’s vice president of operations and capital projects, has 18 years of professional construction and management experience, having overseen all phases of construction, new construction, renovations, and environmental projects in the public and private sectors. She has previously served in various senior project management roles at public and private companies and for the last seven years has worked at New-York Historical, first as a senior project manager/owner’s rep and then transitioned to the head of operations and capital projects.
