Bronze struck medal with obverse showing clothed bust of Washington facing right with legend: "GEORGE WASHINGTON ESQr./LATE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA." Reverse bears inscription within laurel wreath topped by 13 arrows: "WITH COURAGE/AND FIDLITY/HE DEFENDED THE/RIGHTS/OF A FREE PEOPLE./DIED.DECr.14.1799/AGED/68."; legend outside field: "MADE COMMANDER IN CHIEF OF THE AMERICAN FORCES THE 15 JUNE 1775."
