Description:
Copper-plated pewter struck medal with obverse showing head of Native American in traditional feather headdress facing left with legend: "LUCKY PENNY" and date "1927" at center below bust. Reverse depicts the Capitol Building in central roundel inscribed "CAPITOL" below and surrounded by laurel wreath; legend: "SOUVENIR/OF/WASHINGTON/D.C."

Medals known as "lucky pennies" have been sold at souvenir stands from 1913 to the present. Most of these pieces picture a bust of Abraham Lincoln or heads of Native Americans, as does this example.
