This wooden form is shaped like a leg and is used for drying stockings. It is burned with the number "5 1/2" and has a paper label that reads, in part "Traveling Agent of/ F.A. Gordon, Manufacturer of Hosiery Boards. Bristol, N.H./ Showing grade of lumber and finish used in the manufacture of hosiery boards. Please note the uniform thickness and perfect finish of sides and edges. The uniform thickness giving proper results in pressing. This board is of rock maple, from central New Hampshire; the best timber grown for this purpose...".
