Description:
Vertical, rectangular waist band badge with text: ROYAL/ LX/ AMERICANS
Group of eighteen 18th century British military badges and belt plates; brass or silver cartridge box badges, belt plates, and uniform badges, some framed, and all mounted together on a woven fabric board; painted wooden frame with glass removed and discarded.

Paper backing in object file with text: Solid Silver Sword-belt Plate of Lieut. James Edwards of the 28th Regiment of the British Army in the American Revolution. this belt plate was found at teh opening of Arden Street, Inwood, New York City, on the site of hte Hessian Body Regiment Camp of 1779. Edwards was commissioned an Ensign in the 28th Regiment in 1772. Commissioned Captain in the 28th August 23rd, 1775. He was wounded st the battle of Brandywine, September 11th, 1777. He sold out to Ensign John Thomas, June 15th, 1778. A James Edwards was commissioned Captain in Bannister Tarlton's "British Legion", October 24th, 1778. He was probably the same Edwards who owned the belt plate.
