Description:
Flaring cylindrical wheelthrown vessel with four B-shaped handles radiating from center, with applied molded thumbpieces and twisted rope decoration; slip-decorated with raised impressions of medallions, rosettes, and other emblems and pots; lead glaze.

With four handles dividing the rim into sections for several drinkers, this multi-handled drinking mug was probably intended as a loving cup to be passed around at festive occasions. Some drinking vessels were made with as many as nine handles. The multiple handles also allow hot drinks to be passed around without pain. Tygs were made in large quantities at Wrotham in Kent and in many Staffordshire factories.
