Description:
White tin-glazed earthenware tile with red transfer-printed decoration; buff-colored earthenware body; square frame made of scrolls ("88" border) containing corpulant cook in apron with tapped barrel, side of beef, ham, and fowl.
Gallery Label:
The design comes from a double print of 1772 by Brandoin entitled "France. England." It is a satircial print contrasting a well-fed English cook and a skinny French cook eating cats and frogs.
