Description:
Sword with slightly curved, single-edged steel blade with two fullers, one broad and one narrow, and naval insignia etched on obverse and reverse; gilded brass counter-guard with openwork oak leaf and acorn motif with "USN" molded in relief on underside; grip covered in gray fish skin and wrapped with twisted wire; helmet-shaped pommel with eagle in oval frame studded with thirteen stars molded on top and oak leaf and acorn border; dolphin head at end of knuckle-bow joining pommel, and dolphin head finial on quillon; tassel on long cord attached to knuckle-bow; charcoal gray fish skin-covered scabbard with gilded brass carrying ring mounts, which are cast in high relief and resemble knotted rope, and gilded brass drag with fish-like appearance similar to "dolphins" on hilt.

This sword was presented in memory of Jefferson M. Levy, the donor's brother. It originally belonged to their uncle, Commodore Uriah Phillips Levy (1792-1862).
