Description:
Sword with curved, single-edged steel blade with two fullers; half-basket type brass hilt with two sweeping branches on obverse side and oval counter-guard; grip covered in leather and wrapped with wire; Phrygian helmet-shaped pommel without surface decoration; steel scabbard with two carrying rings and asymmetrical drag.
Gallery Label:
This sword is referred to in the accession records as a U.S. Cavalry saber. A tag once attached to the sword identified it as a "relic" of the 79th Highlanders.
