Description: 
Dress sword with straight, evenly tapered steel blade which is triangular in cross section; steel hilt with elliptical counter-guard, cross quillons (broken on one side), pas d'ane, faceted grip, and faceted urn-shaped pommel with ball finial; hilt is decorated with faceted steel beads inset in circular patterns.

According to the accession records, this dress sword was worn by Philip Schuyler (1788-1865), grandfather of the donors, during his service as U.S. Consul at Liverpool under President Martin Van Buren.
