Oval box of sheet tinned iron with hinged bottom and hinged three-fourth top with applied wriggleworked strips and diamond shaped medallion.

According to a note found in the snuffbox, this was the property of Ruth Brown Hodgkins (1765-ca. 1852), born in Hookset, New Hampshire. She married William Hodgkins (d. 1842), a Revolutionary soldier, in 1784.
