Description:
Wrought silver snuffbox; oval box with straight sides and molded edges; repoussé chase scene on the base of Susannah and the Elders with the elders tearing her robes off; repoussé chased cover with grotesques amongst foliate scrolls surround a shield with the arms of the de Peyster family, a tree of the field between two sheep grazing, surmounted by a helmet and tree of the field; stamped on the side.

This snuffbox belonged to Johannes De Peyster III (1694-1789), mayor of Albany.
