Description:
Two shoulder straps, each with two gold embroidered maple(?) leaves on dark blue wool felt ground inside rectangular gold embroidered border.
Gallery Label:
These shoulder straps are identified in the accession records as "Civil War item[s]" associated with the donor's father, Dr. Gabriel Grant (1826-1909), and said to designate the rank of major. Dr. Grant was Surgeon of the 2nd New Jersey Volunteers and later appointed Surgeon-in-Chief of Division.
