Description:
Red silk handmade braid-woven sash, with fringe on each end.
Gallery Label:
This sash was worn by Samuel Blachley Webb (1753-1807), who served in the American Revolution. In 1776 he became aide-de-camp to General George Washington. Captured on an expedition to Long Island, he was held prisoner for three years. Webb was one of the original thirteen officers who met in Fishkill in 1783 to form the Society of the Cincinnati. He was grand marshal of the proceedings when Washington was inaugurated as president.
