Description:
Rectangular, bi-fold game board; game printed on paper, hand-colored, and mounted on cardboard. Game track moves counter-clockwise around a track from space 1 in lower left corner to space 36.
Gallery Label:
The "Reward of Virtue," one of the earliest board games published in America, is closely based on the English game "Reward of Merit," invented by George Fox and published by John Harris and John Wallis in London in 1801. Both are moral games in which players race around a track with 36 or 37 squares of rewards and forfeits and aim to be the first to reach the "Reward of Virtue."
