Gallery Label:
Originally from Marburg, Germany, Arcularius settled in New York City by 1789. By 1794 he was settled at 11 Frankfort Street, where he remained active as a tanner and currier until his death. In 1805, he was appointed superintendent of the almshouse by vote of the Common Council of New York.
