In 1895 the subject, a native of Hamburg, Germany, became a partner in the banking firm of M. M. Warburg and Company; in that same year he married Nina Loeb, daughter of Solomon Loeb, of the New York banking house of Kuhn, Loeb and Company. He came to America in 1902 and became a member of his father-in-law's firm. In 1914 he accepted an appointment from President Woodrow Wilson to the Federal Reserve Board. His two-volume "The Federal Reserve System: Its Origin and Growth" appeared in 1930.
