Bronze struck medal with obverse showing ornamental vignette at center, consisting of world globe decorated with flowers and surmounted by two piles of books inscribed with letters "N" and "B"; surrounding legend: "BIBLIOTHECA NACIONAL DO RIO DE JANEIRO." Reverse contains inscription: "LANCAMENTO/DA/PEDRAFUNDAMENTAL/DO/NOVO EDIFICIO/1905."
