Sara Delano was the mother of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, her only child. The daughter of Warren Delano, a prosperous shipping merchant in the China trade, she was the second wife of James Roosevelt, to whom she was married October 7, 1880. Her husband was a prominent businessman and their home was in Hyde Park, New York.
