Description: 
Circular medal suspended from cast metal rifle suspended from red and blue ribbon suspended from bar inscribed "U.S. MARINE CORPS"; obverse of medal has a gunner behind a cannon encircled by a rope inscribed "SEMPER FIDELIS"; an outer chain is inscribed "UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS"; reverse is inscribed "FIDELITY ZEAL OBEDIENCE".

The marines were very busy between 1873 and 1941. This medal, authorized in 1929 for Marines engaged in opreations against armed opposition, was awarded to those who fought in any one of 50 campaigns in 21 countries or territories.
