Description:
Oval porcelain meat carving platter; decorated with penciled sepia trellis diaper and butterfly border ("Fitzhugh style"); central roundel with spear and post border and alternating diaper and animal figure panels containing an "H" for Hone family.

This piece is part of a dinner service given as a wedding gift to John Hone II and Miss Marie Antoinette Kane (m. 1818). He was the nephew of Philip Hone (1780-1851), the prominent New York businessman, politican, and diarist.
