Standing Iroquois Native American, possibly by Iroquois carver with polychome paint.

Carved wooden tobacco shop figures were mass-produced in the U.S. in the latter half of the 19th century. Individual craftsmen typically worked for manufacturing firms. Several major manufacturers produced as many as 300 figures a year.
