Gold cast medal with obverse depicting draped male bust facing right with legend: ".ANTONIO COMITI DE SHAFTESBURY." Reverse shows distant city view with sun rising above; legend: "LAETAMVR"; in exergue: "24 NOV 1681."

This medal once belonged to Jacob Leisler (donor is descendent). The original medal was struck in honor of Anthony Ashley Cooper, Lord Shaftesbury (1621-1683), English statesman. The N-YHS example is a later gold cast made for a nineteenth-century medal collector.
