Cast and wrought brass kettle-on-stand with a burner; pear-shaped kettle with a squat, circular lower body, a convex shoulder and a short, circular, convex neck and raised bezel; front of the body engraved with the de Peyster family arms, a tree of the field between two sheep affronté grazing in a shield surmounted by an armor helmet and a tree of the field and surrounded by foliate scrolls; "De Peyster" engraved on the body below the armorial; high, chamfered and squared spout with a griffen's head; stepped and domed lid with a hammered bead around teh edge and a knop finial; three part bail handle with a turned wooden grip in the center; chafing-dish form stand with floral and galleried piercing around the sides, a lightly gadrooned rim and a low pear-shaped belly which holdes the burner; dish seated on three scrolled paw feet which are raised to tear-drop shaped knees and scrolled rests with hinged fleur-di-lis rest attachments; circular, stepped burner with a high, tapered cylindical wick socket; no maker's marks.
