Description:
Silk lithographed kerchief with the crowned seal of the Royal Orange Order in the center and an inscribed banner above; in the corners are another crowned seal of the Orange Order, a crowned harp, a thistle and a rose; names of four battles in which the English defeated the Irish catholics in Northern Ireland in 1688 and 1690 on each side; printed in bllue on a gold ground; blue border.

This kerchief carried the open bible in the Royal Orange Institution Parade of July 12, 1871, commemorationg the victory of the Protestants over the Catholics in Ireland in 1688 and 1690. A riot broke out at 8th Avenue near 23rd St. during the parade, when the National guardsmen and police who were protecting the marchers fired into the crowd of Irish catholics protesting the parade. It was the second riot associated with the parade, a riot broke out during the 1870 parade as well.
