White metal struck medal with obverse depicting female head facing left with legend: "JENNY LIND." Reverse bears inscription at center: "AT CASTLE GARDEN/N.Y. SEP.11.1850./ATTENDED BY/7.000 PEOPLE", surrounded by legend: "FIRST CONCERT IN AMERICA/PROCEEDS. 35.000.DOLLARS/12.500. DOLLARS GIVEN BY MISS LIND TO CHARITABLE INSTITUTIONS."

Jenny Lind (1820-1887), a renown Swedish opera singer known throughout Europe as "The Swedish Nightingale," was invited by P. T. Barnum to tour America in 1850. Her yearlong tour turned out to be a great success with American public, both common and distinguished alike.
