Description:
Horizontal rectangular needlework picture in various colors of silk floss and paint on satin ground, depicting a female child outdoors, holding a basket with two love birds up away from a cat which is jumping in the air to get the birds, embroidered straight border on all sides, title and inscription across the bottom the figure's head and arms, and the birds are painted; stitches include satin, straight, outline.
Gallery Label:
This object was once part of the folk art collection of Elie Nadelman (1882-1946), the avant-garde sculptor. From 1924 to 1934, Nadelman's collection was displayed in his Museum of Folk Arts, located in the Riverdale section of the Bronx. The Historical Society purchased Nadelman's entire collection in 1937.
