Description: 
Gavel with ivory head and ebony handle; the head resembles turned wood, the handle is baluster shaped at the neck, slightly wider towards the bottom.

This gavel was presented to Edward H. Kent, commander of the 7th Regiment of New York's National Guard, by Post LaFayette No. 140, some members of which had formerly been under Kent's command.
