Description:
Blue felt forage cap with oval crown with soft top, and rigid sides surrounded by green felt band with two horizontal strips of dark gray braid; black patent leather visor which is flat with rounded edge; metal number "2" pinned to front of cap; black patent leather chin strap secured at either side by a button embossed with number "2"; brown leather sweatband and green textile lining.

According to the accession records, this cap was worn by the the donor's father, Emilio Buch (1833-1900), while serving as a volunteer in the 2nd Battalion, Cazadores Voluntarios de Matanzas, during the Cuban insurrection of the 1860s. Emilio Buch lived in New York City after his marriage, in 1870, to Eliza Baldwin.
