White wool reproduction Revolutionary War flag of the First Virginia Regiment of 1775, the Culpepper Minutemen; machine applied blue cotton coiled rattlesnake in the center with the inscription, "THE CULPEPPER MINUTE MEN/ LIBERTY/ OR DEATH/ DON"T TREAD ON ME" in blue cotton letters around the snake.
There is no original "Culpepper Minutemen" flag extant. This reproduction is derived from a description and sketch in B. J. Lossing's "Pictoral Field Book of the Revolution". This flag was the standard of approximately 100 minutemen from Culpepper (Fairfax?), VA, under the command of Col. patrick Henry's 1st Virginia Regiment. They marched on Williamsburg and participated in the battle of Great Bridge at Norfolk, VA.
