Description:
Aquamarine, non-lead glass bottle blown in a full-sized three-part mold (McKearin GI-99) embossed with a portrait bust of Jenny Lind within a wreath with the inscription, "JENNY LIND" on the obverse with a two-story building with a central chimney with the inscription "MILLFORA GLASS WORK'S" on the reverse; bottle is calabash-shaped with a an applied and tooled collar and a pontil mark on the base.
Gallery Label:
Jenny Lind (1820-1887), the "Swedish Nightingale," was a sporano who toured America in 1850-1852 under the auspices of P.T. Barnum. Noted for her singing as well as her piety and charity, Lind was incredibly popular in America. Though marked Millfora Glass Works, no record of a glass house by that name exists. The Millford Glass Works was operating during the period, and the similarities between this bottle and others made in Southern New Jersey glass houses suggest that it is the maker.
