Description:
Rectangular tempered glass mirror with black enamel surface covering part of reverse; orange lettering with instructions for use; pierced in one corner with hole for braided cotton neck cord.
Gallery Label:
This type of emergency signaling mirror, known as the ESM/1, was used in the United States armed services during World War II. The Army Air Force adopted this model in September 1943. By mid-1944, the ESM/1 mirror was added to many existing and newly developed emergency and life raft kits.
