Cast and seamed Sheffield plate collapsible ear trumpet in four sections; four narrow conical sections, smallest bent at a right angle at the end to insert into the ear; the other sections are progressively larger and have reeded bands applied around their small ends; interior of the small ends threaded to attach all the pieces when extended; largest piece has an applied conical opening or mouth at a right angle with cast, gadrooned bands around the joint and rim; engraved at the mouth, "Daniel Janse Van Antwerp." in script; no maker's marks.
Used by Daniel Van Antwerp (b. 1764), who married Lydia Earle in New York City in 1786.
