Portrait bust.
Gallery Label:
Stone was born in Salem, Mass., the son of Robert and Rebecca (Osgood) Stone. He graduated from Harvard Medical School in 1836 and eventually established his practice in New York. He was a physician at the New York Dispensary from 1845 to 1847 and attending surgeon at Bellevue Hospital from 1850 to 1857. He was appointed a commissioner when the Metropolitan Board of Health was founded in 1866 and served until the board was disbanded in 1869. After about 1865 Stone was the Rogers's family doctor.
