Description:
Press-molded tin-glazed earthenware salt in the form of a seated figure of a young man holding a basin, which serves as a receptacle for salt; inside of basin inscribed "P" over "I S" and "1673"; painted in blue with green base.
Gallery Label:
This saltcellar takes the form of a seated servant holding an oval basin. Figural salts are rare: this example is one of five known figures from the same mold.
