Description: 
Combination checker and backgammon set in the form of a hinged wooden box with checkerboard on exterior and backgammon board on interior; patterns on boards composed of different colored inlaid wood, and two inlaid stars on backgammon board; set included fifteen red and fifteen plain ivory pieces, four ivory dice, and two ivory dice rolling cups; box is carved with an inscription on outside.

According to accession records, John Haven was the great-grandfather of the donor. Note found inside box reads "TO: N.Y. HISTORICAL MUSEUM/BACKGAMMON & CHECKERS/BOARD MADE/IN 1792; for/JOHN HAVEN, GREAT GRANDFATHER/of/MARIAN HAVEN WICKES".
