Description:
Silver struck medal with obverse showing clothed bust of Christopher Columbust facing left with cross beneath and surrounding legend: "CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS GAVE A NEW WORLD TO HUMANITY." Reverse contains inscription within open laurel wreath with superimposed emblem of the American Numismatic Society at right: "AFTER/FOUR HUNDRED/YEARS OF PROGRESS/FREE AMERICA/HONORS ITS/DISCOVERER."
