Description:
Bronze struck medal with obverse showing stylized female head with elaborate eagle headdress, facing left; legend: "HONOS ALIT ARTES." Reverse shows central roundel flanked by two female figures holding scepters inscribed: "VICTORY," at left, and "INDUSTRY," at right; inscriptions: above, center: "CARNEGIE ART INSTITUTE"; at center, within roundel: "MEDAL/OF HONOR/AWARDED TO/SERGEANT KENDALL/NEW YORK, N.Y./MEDAL OF THE/THIRD/CLASS"; below roundel "PITTSBURGH/OIL PAINTING"; in exergue: "PENNSYLVANIA/VSA"; at left and right of field, vertically: "AD/1900." Rectangular brown suede fitted case with brown silk velvet and silk satin lining.
