Copper struck medal with obverse depicting undraped bust of Louis XIV facing right, surrounded by legend: "LUDOVICUS MAGNUS REX CHRISTIANISSIMUS." Reverse shows female personification of Carthagena reclining at the foot of a palm tree, with an overturned urn of money; legend above: "HISPANORUM THESAURI DIREPTI"; inscription in exergue: "CARTHAGO AMERICANA/VI CAPTA/M.DC.XCVII." Commemorates the French seizure of the city of Carthagena from Spain.
