This bust was created as a preparatory sketch for the life-size statue of Frederick Douglass installed on the 77th Street steps of the New-York Historical Society in November, 2011. The bronze statue was commissioned by the New-York Historical Society and executed by the Brooklyn firm StudioEIS. A companion statue of Abraham Lincoln was created for the Central Park West entrance; together, the two figures bring to life the story of freedom that is deeply embedded in our history and is a primary focus of the Historical Society's programs.
