Description:
Brass belt plate; rectangular brass plate has stamped eagle in center with shield on breast, three arrows in one talon, and branch in other talon, flanked by wreath at bottom and with rayed background, thirteen stars, and inscription inside scroll at top.

According to accession records, this plate was part of a sword belt worn by the donor's father, Dr. Gabriel Grant, surgeon of the 2nd New Jersey Volunteers during the Civil War.
