Description:
Black leather bell crown cap with metal eagle insignia at center front with plain brass shield attached above; hole for pompon holder pierced in edge of top adjacent to shield; braided white cord draped in front and back, with two tassels suspended at right; missing chin strap; white shoulder cord with two slides and tassels similar to those on hat cord.
Gallery Label:
According to military expert William L. Brown, the cap probably dates from the 1820s or 1830s, while the shoulder cord is probably from the 1870s or later.
