Description:
Cast iron bell with painted inscription; supported from above and on either side by iron mounts bolted to rectangular wooden base.
Gallery Label:
This bell is said to come from Robert Fulton's steamboat, the "Clermont," which began operating between New York City and Albany, New York, in 1807. According to Eben E. Olcott, father of the donor and Chairman of the Clermont Committee of the Hudson-Fulton Exhibition of 1909, this bell was used on the "Clermont" in the first year of its operation.
