Description:
Mahogany and veneered late-Grecian (Empire) armchair; upholstered scroll back; open arms with upholstered arms and turned baluster-shaped supports with acanthus-leaf carving; square upholstered spring seat with veneered rails; baluster-shaped front legs with acanthus-leaf carving, curved rear legs.

According to the accession records, this chair was used by Henry Clay while Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives. Clay was Speaker in the 1810s and 1820s.
