Description:
Black silk hand-sewn "fig leaf" apron with two small U-shaped pockets; trimmed with black hairpin lace; white and pale green crewelwork floral design on pockets and around the edge of the apron; crewelwork birds in the two lower corners; black silk ribbon ties.
Gallery Label:
"Fig leafs" were decorative aprons worn in England in the 1860's and 70's. According to the note from donor, this apron belonged to the family of Rev. S. K. Russell of White Plains, New York.
