Description:
15 "feature" stick matchbook with glossy white exterior. Front cover with black, red, and black half-tone dot image of man in baseball uniform wearing tailcoat and holding baseball mitt and tophat and "signature." On saddle, green lettering "CLOWN PRINCE OF BASEBALL." On rear cover, diamond shaped striker at center, with name of restaurant above in black lettering, and address in black lettering below. White interior with schedule of Yankees baseball team in green lettering. Wide dark brown matchsticks with paler brown design. Alternating matchsticks with silhouette of baseball bat, others with name of restaurant.
Gallery Label:
Al Schacht opened his steakhouse at 102 E. 52 Street after World War II. The restaurant, which catered to sports stars and celebrities, was popular for decades. Al Schact's menus resembled oversize baseballs and featured dishes named after famous players.
