Description:
Walnut Chippendale side chair; back with serpentine crest rail with scrolled ears and pierced splat with interlace design; trapezoidal seat frame with through tenons on side rails and slip seat with blue and gold brocade upholstery supported by square corner blocks in front (iron brackets have been added to joints in seat frame); cabriole legs ending in ball-and-claw feet in front and rounded legs in rear.

According to the accession records, this chair was used in the London dining room of Samuel Bayard (1767-1840) when he was American claims agent under the Jay Treaty (1794-98).
